I am trying to learn HTML. I have read a few books, looked at some home pages and have
tried a few things. I have tried a few different shareware HTML editors and this is my
opinion of the editors I have tried. And remember this is just my opinion. As these
programs are shareware you get to try them before you buy them but they may be limited in
ome function ality.
WebWriter
Ver 1.3: I like this program for it's Wilber documentation file dealing with html v3.2 It
is also freeware with free online registration. What I don't like is it's online help
which I find rather sketchy at best and downright unhelpful. also you have to shift
between your browser and this program to see what your work in progress looks like.
WebExpress Ver2.0
32 bit: This Program is wysiwyg. it does not show you the code although you get some
strange looking characters if it doesn't recognize a tag as in java scripts. it also
doesn't recognize Iexplorer specific tags or ActiveX controls. The online help is better
FlexEd FlexEd looks like a fairly good editor. It has a built in viewer, a
fairIy good help file and an online tutorial. It shows your tags and links in different
colors (green for good tags red for bad tags and blue for links.). It does not recognize
Java Script in its built in viewer but does allow for an alternate viewer. Its menu system
put just about everything in tool bars along the top and down both sides of the main
screen. I like this program.
CoffeCup HTML Editor++ CoffeeCup HTML Editor++ has a good tag reference in
its help file and 24 hour help through there web site for registered users. It does not
have a built in viewer but will launch your browser to test your web page. it comes with a
bunch of animated icons, 10 java scripts, 5 VBScript and Activex controls (for Internet
Explorer only) and 12 objects under the catagory Hot Stuff. It does not show tag in color.

HomeSite ver2.5 HomeSite ver2.5 is a very good
program that has a really nice help file. It can edit Vbscript, Activex and java scripts.
It has a build in preview mode that shows what you have done. you work in html code and
toggle to preview mode. You can also check your code if you have CS3310 HTML Validator.
You can verify your hyperlinks and publish your page to the net if you have the right
setup. I like this Program very much.
